Object Description: Framed signed T-Shirt, Glamorgan County Cricket Club

No, this isn’t a late April Fools, we really do have a cricket shirt in the collection. You may be as bemused as I was when I found it – why on earth would we have one of these?!

Presented in a glazed black frame, the overall object measures around 77cm by 61cm. The shirt itself is the blue and yellow colours of the Glamorgan County Cricket Club first team, from their 2019 season, and is signed by the team members.

The Aston Martin name can be seen in white on the collar. Ah, so there is an Aston Martin connection after all…..

Glamorgan is a county on the South coast of Wales. The very southernmost area is known as the Vale of Glamorgan, and it is here that St Athan is located.

In 2016, Aston Martin started transforming the old Royal Air Force base at St Athan into their Aston Martin Lagonda Production & Technology Centre. It was officially opened in 2019, and was where their first SUV, the DBX, was manufactured. Production continues today with the popular DBX-707.

With the intention to play their part in the local community, Aston Martin announced a 3-year partnership with Glamorgan County Cricket Club covering the 2017-2019 seasons, which included support for the age-grade youth teams from Cricket Wales. Hence the Aston Martin name and wings logo appears on the collar of the team kit. The framed shirt was given to Aston Martin Lagonda to mark the partnership deal.

So, a rather unexpected object to find really. A bit of a “googly” one might say. It really is a very well presented shirt – on close inspection there is not a “crease” in sight!
