Phil has spent most of his career working in broadcasting, mainly at the BBC in News & Current Affairs, Science, History and Entertainment before becoming Head of Television Events in 2012.  BBC Events is the department responsible for broadcasting all the major national occasions, including the State Opening of Parliament, the New Year’s Eve Fireworks, Remembrance Sunday, and the Queen’s (now King’s) Christmas Message. He also worked on cultural events such as Shakespeare Live! From the RSC, and The National Theatre’s 50th Anniversary and on biographies of Dame Judi Dench and David Bowie.

Since leaving the BBC in 2019, Phil has worked as a freelance executive producer on many broadcasts including the Booker Prize, Turner Prize and the 2019 and 2024 General Elections. At the same time he developed a new interest in museum leadership, joining the board of the National Museum of the Royal Navy in 2020 and the Association of Independent Museums in 2022.

He has written and contributed to several books including the Haynes Workshop Manuals for Apollo 11 and for the most expensive car ever built, the Lunar Rover Vehicle, and he co-authored a book on twentieth-century technology with James May.

Phil has a lifelong passion for all things automotive. He is now thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Heritage Trust.
