The DB9 established the modern Gaydon Aston Martin. The DB11 had to take that success and reinvent the grand tourer for a new technological era.
Launched at the March 2016 Geneva Salon, the Aston Martin DB11—the first model in the Second Century plan and the most significant since the DB9.
The design team added a front-hinged clamshell bonnet, continuous roof strakes, curlicue front wheel arch vents and a concealed AeroBlade rear airflow system. The launch model featured an in-house 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 with an eight-speed automatic, marking a significant shift from the naturally aspirated V12.
Host Garry Taylor discusses the DB11 with Aston Martin historian Steve Waddingham and HWM Aston Martin CEO Guy Jenner, covering its aerodynamics, V12 turbo engine and success as the DB9’s successor.
At the episode’s close, Steve is joined by Merrick, a keen Aston Martin buyer, collecting his DB11 from Aston Martin Birmingham and explaining why it suits him perfectly.
