In this episode, Garry Taylor returns to Aston Martin Works in the 70th year of the brand’s association with Newport Pagnell to learn more about Works’ history, and its importance to the broader Aston Martin Lagonda organisation from its president, Paul Spires.
With contributions from Aston Martin Historian, Steve Waddingham, the chat begins with the early years of Aston Martin Lagonda’s presence in Newport Pagnell, before moving through the ‘golden era’ of heritage DB sports car production in the 1960s and early ‘70s, and on through the ‘80s, ‘90s and noughties, when production moved to the brand’s new factory at Gaydon and Aston Martin Works Service became Aston Martin Works.
With insights into the breadth and depth of the Works business today – from its international service support function to its uniquely skilled paint, panel and trim departments – there’s a chance to understand more about the critical role Works now plays in preserving, protecting and promoting the heritage of this great British brand.
Add in the story behind the marque’s fabulously successful Continuation programme, which saw the recreation of classic models from Aston Martin’s ‘back catalogue’ at Newport Pagnell just a few years ago, and, as always, there’s much to learn and enjoy.
