Richard Hayes, the son of Walter Hayes, reads from and discusses letters to Walter from Colin Chapman, Graham Hill, Emerson Fittipaldi, Sir Jackie Stewart, Henry Ford II and Liz Forgan.

We hear about how Hayes and Chapman recruited Graham Hill for Team Lotus, and how they tried to get him to retire. We hear, in his own words , Emerson Fittipaldi’s indecision about renewing his Team Lotus  contract, and his delight a year later at becoming the F1 champion. And we hear about the big effort Hayes, Chapman and Ford made to get Sir Jackie Stewart to join Team Lotus.

Richard adds details to the account in Max Mosley’s autobiography, “Formula One and beyond”, of his gratitude to Walter for having saved his F1 chassis company, March.

The first part of the podcast is available as Episode 13.
