Certificate and Research (CAR) services

The AMHT archive is the largest collection of Aston Martin records in the world. It includes factory records, publications, workshop manuals and thousands of photographs. Certificate and Research (CAR) services are one of the distinctive ways in which we share this history and the story of one of the most famous British marques.

If you are a car owner, or undertaking research, the wealth of material within our collection means we are in a unique position to provide information.

As an educational charity and a small team, we must charge for these services. The income contributes to the costs of maintaining and caring for the collection. As such, we charge for our time even if the collection doesn’t uncover answers.

Your enquiry is important to us and we aim to reply within 5 working days. Thank you for understanding we’re a small, busy team.

Please note that all prices quoted exclude VAT unless otherwise stated.

For services in the UK VAT will be added at the current rate of 20%

Current AMHT and AMOC members will receive a discount for all Certificate and Research Services (details below).

Heritage Certificates

£100 or £85 for current AMHT & AMOC supporters
Our Heritage Certificates, based on your car’s build sheet, can help to confirm the provenance of your car and are the perfect addition to any vehicle file. They are available for all models. Information on the certificate is taken directly from the build sheet specifications. A copy of your build sheet is included when you purchase a Heritage Certificate. The certificate documents are posted out to you. Please be aware the current waiting time is approximately 3 weeks.

Please be aware that Heritage Certificates are not accepted by the DVLA as official documents.

If you are an Aston Martin dealer and would like to discuss the provision of regular Heritage Certificates please get in touch and we’d be happy to discuss this with you.

For extra peace of mind, all documents posted internationally will be sent with tracking. Europe: £6, Rest of World: £10

Enhanced Heritage Certificates

£150 or £127.5 for current AMHT & AMOC supporters
Our Enhanced Heritage Certificates include a bespoke appendix alongside the certificate and build sheet. The one page appendix can be tailored to your particular question(s) e.g. general production numbers, or previous owners. The information will always be based on documented evidence. These are a good alternative for older cars where we have some information but not enough for a full Collections Research Report. The certificate documents are posted out to you. Please be aware the current waiting time is approximately 3 weeks.

If you are an Aston Martin dealer and would like to discuss the provision of regular Enhanced Heritage Certificates please get in touch and we’d be happy to discuss this with you.

For extra peace of mind, all documents posted internationally will be sent with tracking. Europe: £6, Rest of World: £10

Build Sheets/Factory Vehicle Details

£50 or £42.50 for current AMHT & AMOC supporters

These internal documents used by the factory give specific details of how a car left the factory. Designs and formats will vary by model, as does the amount of information contained. Basic information such as chassis number and engine number are rarely missing. Some include information such as carburettor type, gearbox number, exterior and interior colours and optional extras.

Copies of the original build sheets from the Bertelli era models through to the DB7 and V12 Vanquish are usually available. Vehicle details for later models are stored as electronic records. Copies of all build sheets are sent to you as a PDF file. If we do not hold the build sheet on site, please be aware the waiting time is approximately 1 week to source the information.

‘One of X’ Report

for AM V8 and DB7 model £120 or £80 for current AMHT & AMOC supporters
for VH cars (2003MY to 2018MY) £140 or £100 for current AMHT & AMOC supporters
for Second Century cars (DB11, Vantage AM6 to 2023MY, DBS Superleggera) £200 or £160 for current AMHT & AMOC supporters
A ‘One Of X’ Report combines a certificate with a unique research document which identifies how many cars there were built to a matching specification. These are very popular and the research can be very time-intensive so there is often a waiting list. The certificate and research documents are sent out as a PDF to print at home.
This service is currently available for cars that date from around 1994 onward.

Collections Research Reports

£150 or £127.50 for current AMHT or AMOC supporters
This research is based on what is held within the AMHT collection and archive and includes searching through back copies of AMOC registers and publications, photographs and auction catalogues. As we tend to hold more information for cars built prior to the DB7, Collections Research Reports are better suited to cars built before the year 2000. We may still be able to help with more recent cars in certain circumstances but please get in touch with us to enquire.

Please note, we do not hold material related to every car and we are not able to offer a full report into a car’s history. We can only provide and include what we have access to within the AMHT collection.

The Collections Research Report is sent to you as a PDF file. Please be aware the current waiting time is approximately 12 weeks due to the time-intensive nature.

Photography & Image Requests

We can help with commercial and private-use image requests. Our photographic archive contains thousands of images ranging from photograph albums to publicity stills and private photographs of individual cars from around the world.
The collection centres around three significant photographic collections:
  • Legendary photographer Louis Klemantaski (1940s - 1950s)
  • AML Historian Roger Stowers (1970s – 1990s)
  • Neill Bruce, professional Automotive photographer

If you already have an idea or theme for the type of image you are interested in, please search our Online Collection and contact us with the object number(s) (e.g. AMHT-2022-425) of the image(s) to discuss your request further.

On-Site Research

Half day access (10.30am-1pm or 2pm-4.30pm): £12 (vat not applicable)
Full day access (10.30am-4.30pm): £24 (vat not applicable)
In some circumstances we grant access for researchers to conduct their own on-site research. This happens by appointment on Mondays or Tuesdays and must be booked at least seven days in advance.

Please note that the site must be vacated between 1pm and 2pm.

Please also send a full list of requested items for approval. This allows us time to retrieve and condition check the items you are interested in viewing and confirm they are available. There is no current limit on the number of items you can request but please be mindful of how much material you will be able to view during your chosen timeframe.

Please look at the online collection in advance and let us know the object number(s) (e.g., AMHT-2022-425) of the material you are interested in or contact us to further discuss the material required.

If you wish to view material different to your original request, another appointment must be booked.

AMOC members are exempt from the half day/full day access charge, but there may be charges for any duplication of archive material.

Out-of-print Marketing Material and Publications

We have several original copies of Aston Martin Owners Club publications, Aston Martin Marketing Material and miscellaneous race programs which are available for sale. Dates, issues, and models may vary.
