Louis Zborowski was the man behind Chitty Bang Bang (yes, that is correct) plus a pioneering racing driver and financial saviour of Aston Martin in the 1920’s
There was a special service and church open day in the Leicestershire village of Burton Lazars on the 19 October 2024. The occasion was to celebrate the life of Louis, who died 100 years ago on the same date in 1924. A small group of Aston Martin enthusiasts, local residents, and the owners of the two 1922 Aston Martin Grand Prix cars celebrated his life.
Hosted by Steve Waddingham there were regular short talks on the Aston Martin connection plus genealogy from special guest Michelle McDermott.
In addition, there was a short remembrance service around the Louis’ grave by Adam Gompertz, aka The Rev. As The Rev mentioned, you do not have to “Do God” to be part and enjoy this.
We were also joined by the two 1922 French Grand Prix cars, formerly known in period as TT1 and TT2, both raced by Louis in 1922 and 1923. Special thanks to Rob Murray and Dave Moroney for bringing the cars along. The cars were parked in a similar position to the famous image dating from 1922 and were overlooking the grave in the distance.
A unique podcast, capturing the atmosphere of the day and memories of a great man.
