In this episode, we’re going to take a moment to celebrate and remember the incredible women who were behind and involved with Aston Martin way back in the early 1900s.
Our guest, Michelle McDermott, has a Masters of Science degree in Genealogical, Palaeographic, and Heraldic studies. In simpler terms, it’s a MSc in family history, old handwriting, and coats of arms.
Aston Martin enthusiast turned researcher, her passion for the brand led her to uncover the stories and backgrounds of the women and men who shaped early Aston Martin history. Ladies have been racing Aston Martins since the early 1920s, on hill climbs and racetracks, and their experiences and backgrounds are all very different. We delve into:
- Winifred Pink, an engineer and the daughter of a jam manufacturer, who raced an Aston Martin.
- Kate Martin, the daughter of a vicar and the wife of Lionel Martin the co-founder of Bamford & Martin
- Marion Agnew as the first female owner of a second-hand Aston Martin, Green Pea.
This podcast champions these women fighting against the odds in a man’s world, with social surroundings also providing context.
